SUMMARY:I-9 and E-Verify: Strengthening Your Immigration Compliance & Audit Strategies
DESCRIPTION:Are you confident your organization is in full compliance with Federal immigration laws\, or are you at risk for being assessed costly fines\, or worse\, for potential violations? \nIn an effort to control illegal immigration\, in 1986 Congress passed the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA).  The IRCA was enacted to legalize approximately three million undocumented immigrants\, while at the same time\, attempted to deter future undocumented immigration.  In order to be in compliance with IRCA’s directives\, all U.S. employers must complete a Form I-9 for each employee hired after November 6\, 1986. \nIt is a violation of Federal immigration law for any employer to knowingly hire employees who are not authorized to work in the United States.  The Federal Form I-9: Employment Eligibility Verification\, is used by employers as a record of their basis for determining work eligibility.  The form is maintained by the employer and made available upon request for inspection by officials of the Department of Homeland Security\, The Department of Labor\, and the Office of Special Counsel for Immigration Related Unfair Employment Practices. \nThe process of completing\, storing\, and properly disposing of I-9s can be daunting.  The current Administration is strongly focused on immigration enforcement\, and the changes of your organization being audited are higher than ever.  Due to this increased focus\, more employers are conducting proactive self-audits of their I-9s and supporting documentation.  Additionally\, more employers are participating in the Federal E-Verify program\, a web-based system that allows business to electronically confirm the eligibility of their employees to work in the United States. \n  \n \n\n\nIn this informative 90-minute program\, you’ll be provided with the information you need to ensure your organization is Form I-9 compliant\, understand what constitutes proper documentation\, record keeping best practices\, and methods for conducting self-audits.  You will also learn about the E-Verify process which can assist employers with good faith immigration compliance.  Additionally\, participation in this webinar will provide you with insight on surviving an external audit best practices to avoid hefty fines and enforcement actions from ICE. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Recognizing & Rooting Out Unconscious Bias the Workplace
DESCRIPTION:OVERVIEW:    Unconscious biases in the workplace are a fact of life.  Biases occur when individuals make spontaneous judgments about people or situations based on past experiences\, culture\, background\, or exposure to media.   These hidden preferences or prejudices can affect nearly every decision an organization makes.  Biases can stymie diversity\, recruiting and retention efforts and can unknowingly shape an organization’s culture. \nBias affects who gets hired\, promoted\, and developed.  If left unchecked\, it can also be blamed for influencing discriminatory behavior and workplace inequality.  Most recently\, it has been identified as a major contributor to the gender pay gap. \nOrganizations need to recognize and root out the unconscious biases that can undermine their diversity efforts\, recruiting\, and retention programs.  By providing proper awareness training and putting processes in place that identify unconscious biases\, organizations can take positive steps in minimizing biases that can impact every aspect of an organization. \n  \nWHY YOU SHOULD ATTEND:  Tackling unconscious bias in the workplace can be difficult because it can be neither visible nor deliberate.  Managers and employees might not realize they are making unfair assumptions or developing stereotypes based on the personal biases they bring to the workplace.  Unconscious bias happens outside of our control.  It occurs automatically and is triggered by our brain making quick judgments. \nIndividuals who experience bias can feel marginalized and unhappy leading to a less inclusive organizational culture\, lower employee morale and reduced employee retention. Attending this webinar will provide participants with the information needed to recognize bias and then take the necessary steps to addressing and reducing bias in their workplace. \n  \nAreas Covered in this Seminar \n\nDefining unconscious bias\nWhat does unconscious bias look like?\nWhen do unconscious biases occur?\nImpact of bias on the workplace\nTypes of bias that affect the workplace\nSubtle unconscious biases\nAddressing and combating biases\nBias and its effect on recruiting efforts\nBias that occurs during performance management reviews\nLegal protections afforded to employees\nInteraction tips\n\n  \nWho Will Benefit from this Seminar? \n\n Senior Leadership\nHuman Resources Professionals\nCompensation Professionals\nOperations Professionals\nRecruiting Professionals\nManagers and Supervisors\nProject Managers\nTeam Leaders

SUMMARY:Paid Sick Leave Legislation: Understanding & Complying with Requirements in 2020
DESCRIPTION:Overview:   Paid sick days legislation is emerging across the country.  More than 33 million private sector workers are currently legally protected by these laws.  Since there is no requirement under Federal law that employees be given sick leave at all\, there also is no Federal legal requirement that sick leave\, if provided by the employer\, be paid leave.  However\, currently there are some state and local laws requiring employers to provide paid sick leave for their employees. \nStates\, cities\, and counties across the United States are implementing paid sick leave laws designed to ensure workers can take sick days without losing pay and without fear of retaliation.  Measures adopted across the nation typically require a minimum number of paid sick hours or days each year and often mandate other guidelines in terms of permissible reasons for leave and record-keeping requirements for employers. \nEmployers need to review their sick leave policies to ensure compliance and be prepared to implement new policies in additional jurisdictions in 2020.  Additionally\, employers need to have procedures in place to ensure workers are not subject to adverse employment actions for taking those sick days. \n  \nAreas Covered in the Session: \n\n Which States currently have paid sick leave legislation in place?\nWhich employers are impacted by paid sick leave laws?\nState laws vs. City laws vs. County laws\nStrategies to ensure workers are not subject to adverse employment actions when taking sick days\nPermissible reasons for paid leave\nRecord-keeping responsibilities for employers\nAvoiding adverse actions against employees who request and/or take sick leave\nAdministrative concerns\n\n Who Should Attend: \n\n Senior Leadership\nHuman Resource Managers\, Generalists & Representatives\nManagers & Supervisors\nCompensation Professionals\nPayroll Professionals\nOperations Managers

DESCRIPTION:Topic Name: Offboarding Employees with Care: Conducting Legal & Ethical Terminations \nDate: October 17\, 2019 \nTime: 12:00 p.m. CDT \nDuration: 90 minutes \nOverview: If an employer has exhausted all the necessary steps to help the employee improve his or her work performance – and those steps are not working – it may be time to terminate the employee.Terminating an employee is not only stressful for the employee losing a job\, but also for the employer. There are legal\, ethical steps to take when you terminate an employee. The company must ensure its actions are above reproach. How the company terminates an employee sends a powerful message not only to the terminated employee\, but also to remaining staff\, either positive or negative. \nWhy should one attend this webinar: Regardless of the company or industry\, the way an employer treats their employees as they exit has never been more important than it is today. When a termination is done well\, the affected employee feels he or she has been treated with dignity. \nMost managers\, regardless of level\, handle the uncomfortable task of terminating employees badly. The biggest mistake managers make is terminating an employee in a harsh\, unkind and insensitive way. Most times\, this happens because managers have not been properly trained to handle terminations and are left to their own devices. In all too many cases\, managers are likely to either say inappropriate things or fail to handle terminations expediently and professionally. \nParticipants of this webinar will learn techniques and best practices when conducting legal and ethical employee terminations. \nAreas Covered in the session: \n• Offboarding should not be an afterthought \n• Pre-termination efforts on the part of the employer \n• 3 key aspects of a proper termination \n• Top 10 things NOT to do when terminating an employee \n• Laws affecting termination \n• Legal ramifications of not terminating an employee \n• Contractual and At-Will Employment situations \n• Offboarding involuntary and voluntary separations \n• Conducting the termination meeting \n• Preparing for and effectively dealing with a volatile employee \n• Determine when severance is appropriate \n• Final pay considerations: Federal vs. State laws \n• Resources to assist the employee in the transition \n• Handling requests for references for terminated employees \n• Communicating the termination to co-workers without invading the employee’s privacy \n• Documenting your termination discussions \n• Post-termination record retention guidelines \n• Recognizing lessons learned \nWho will benefit from this webinar: \n• Senior Leadership \n• HR Professionals \n• Managers & Supervisors \n• Team Leaders \n• Operations Professionals \n• Compliance Professionals

SUMMARY:Effective Employee Retention Strategies: Retaining Your Top Talent
DESCRIPTION:Topic:   It’s every managers’ nightmare:  One of your best employees turns in their resignation out of the blue.  You now have a number of challenges to manage on top of your daily responsibilities.  Not only do you have to find a replacement for the valued employee\, but you also must consider the impact the departure will have on the rest of your staff.  Additionally\, employee departures usually result in current employees having to pick up the responsibilities of the departing employee resulting in employee frustration and lowered morale.  The bottom line is: It’s more efficient to retain a qualified employee than to recruit\, train and orient a replacement employee of the same quality. \nWhy You Should Attend:  Whenever an employee walks out the door\, employees notice.  Some will even start wondering if they should start looking for a new job\, too.  The impact of employee turnover goes beyond just dollars.  If your organization is constantly recruiting because of high turnover\, your stuck in a cycle of hiring instead of engaging and encouraging your high performers. That’s why employee retention and employee job satisfaction should be high on every organization’s list of priorities.  Creating effective retention strategies to decrease turnover should be one of management’s biggest priorities. \nParticipation in this webinar will assist participants in understanding why employees leave and what steps an organization can take to develop an effective retention program. \nAreas Covered in this Seminar \n\nBusiness case for retention\nWhy employees leave\nPredictors of turnover\nDrivers of employee retention and turnover\nDeveloping retention strategies\nManaging for retention\nTurnover myths\nCalculating employee retention\nKey ingredients of employee retention programs\nPayoff of focusing on employee retention\n\nWho Will Benefit from this Seminar? \n\n Senior Leadership\nHuman Resources Professionals\nCompensation Professionals\nOperations Professionals\nRecruiting Professionals\nManagers and Supervisors\nProject Managers\nTeam Leaders\nEmployees\n\n  \n

SUMMARY:Skills Gaps: Strategies to Identify and Close Those Gaps
DESCRIPTION:Is the fast-paced\, ever-changing corporate world on the verge of a skills crisis?  The challenge to bridge skills gaps in an organization is becoming increasingly difficult.  It’s not uncommon to hear management and employees talking about skill gaps. \nBasically\, a skill gap is identified by an employer when it perceives an employee lacks certain skills which prevents the employee from being fully proficient in his or her job.  The mismatch between the organization’s skills needs and the current capabilities of its workforce negatively impacts an organization.  Skills gaps carry a huge risk for organizations which explains the urgency to identify and solve these issues as quickly as possible. \nA skills gap analysis can benefit an organization by providing a critical overview of an organization’s workforce allowing managers to determine if their employees have the necessary skills to meet organizational objectives.  If employees do not have the necessary skills\, the organization can use a skills gap analysis to prioritize training resources so they are tailored to specific job roles as opposed to generic training that might not be of value to the entire workforce. \nWHY YOU SHOULD ATTEND:   \n It’s crucial to know where your employees lack skills to perform their jobs efficiently.   Skills gaps can occur at an individual\, departmental or organizational level.  This negative impact of skills gaps can manifest in lowered customer satisfaction\, lowered productivity and morale\, and loss of revenue. \nParticipation in this webinar will provided participants with the necessary tools to identify skills gaps in their organizations and strategies to address those gaps. \nAreas Covered in this Seminar \n\nWhat are skills gaps?\nSkills gaps significant impact on an organization\nWhat is a gap analysis?\nWhy conduct a gap analysis?\nStrategies when conducting a gap analysis\nDeveloping a skills gap analysis strategy\nIdentifying key skills needed in the organization\nUtilizing skill competencies scales\nMeasuring present/current workforce skills\nTraining approaches to filling gaps\nUtilizing a training needs analysis\nHiring to fill skills gaps\n\nWho Will Benefit from this Seminar? \n\nSenior Leadership\nHuman Resources Professionals\nOperations Professionals\nRecruiting Professionals\nManagers and Supervisors\nTeam Leaders

SUMMARY:Harassment in the Workplace and Its Relationship to Discrimination…
DESCRIPTION:While no employer wants to be accused of harassment\, all employers need to be armed with the knowledge of how to proceed should they find themselves in the position of having to defend themselves against a harassment charge. \nEmployers often overlook the importance of promptly investigating complaints of harassment and taking quick and appropriate corrective action.  Since an employer’s prompt\, effective response to complaints can limit or even eliminate its liability in a discrimination\, harassment\, or retaliation lawsuit\, it is imperative that employers implement an effective mechanism to investigate and resolve workplace complaints.   How companies investigate potential misconduct can affect the company’s reputation as well as its bottom line.  Because cultural and generational diversity is changing the landscape of the U.S. workforce\, that diversity can become fuel for all types of litigation. \nIt is imperative that employers understand how to recognize harassment\, evaluate the scope of their internal investigations\, document steps taken along the way\, and insulate their organization from subsequent lawsuits.  Additionally\, it’s also important for employers to ensure all parties are treated fairly during the process and be sensitive to how the organization’s process is communicated and implemented. \nParticipants of this 5-Hour virtual seminar will learn the best practices employers can employ to minimize the likelihood of violations.   From fact-finding to conducting interviews and writing reports\, participants will gain the knowledge needed to recognize harassment in their workplace and confidently and effectively conduct investigations. \nAreas Covered in this Seminar \n\nWhat constitutes harassment in the workplace?\nWhat harassment is NOT\nFederal laws violated by harassment\nEmployer/Employee responsibilities in preventing harassment\nCreating a harassment-free workplace\nUnderstanding discrimination\, retaliation\, and hostile work environments\nWhat constitutes discrimination?\nFederal laws providing protection from discrimination\nLegal requirements to meet the definition of hostile work environment\nDealing with hostile work environment situations\nUnderstanding the concept of retaliation\nWhat constitutes a valid retaliation claim?\nMinimizing the likelihood of retaliation violations\nWhistleblower protection/Sarbanes-Oxley Act\nAdverse employment actions and causation of retaliation\nSteps to prevent retaliation\nMaking the decision to investigate workplace complaints\nAvoiding the legal landmines surrounding investigations\nCreating a successful roadmap for investigations\nAppointing an Investigator\nReviewing employee complaints\nGathering evidence\nConducting legally-compliant and effective interviews\nUnderstanding the perspectives of the Complainant and Accused Wrongdoer\nDetermining witness credibility\nCreating a perception of fairness\nConcluding the investigation\nDetermine corrective actions to take\nTaking appropriate action once a determination has been made\nDeveloping documentation that will stand-up in a lawsuit\nWriting a court-ready final report\nAdvising management of investigation results\nAddressing employees’ rumors and questions in the aftermath of an investigation\nHandling post-investigative issues\n\nWho Will Benefit from this Seminar? \n\nSenior Leadership\nHuman Resources professionals\nCompliance professionals\nOperations professionals\nRecruiting professionals\nManagers and Supervisors\nEmployees

SUMMARY:I-9 Compliance and Audits: Strengthening Your Immigration Compliance Strategies
The Federal Form I-9: Employment Eligibility Verification\, is used by employers as a record of their basis for determining eligibility of an employee to work in the U.S. \nIn this informative 90-minute program\, you’ll be provided with the information you need to ensure your organization is Form I-9 compliant\, understand what constitutes proper documentation\, recordkeeping best practices\, and methods for conducting self-audits.  You will also learn about the E-Verify process which can assist employers with good faith immigration compliance.  Additionally\, participation in this webinar will provide you with insight on surviving an external audit best practices to avoid hefty fines and enforcement actions from ICE. \nAreas Covered in the Session \n\nWhat is Form I-9 and who must comply?\nExceptions for completing and retaining Forms I-9\nEmployer and employee responsibilities when completing Form I-9\nCommon Form I-9 errors\nProcedures for correcting errors & omissions\nForm I-9 retention rules\nForm I-9 Internal and External Audits\nLevels of violations\nSelf-audits\nImmigration and Customs Enforcement Audits\nInspection Notices\nConsequences of non-compliance\nE-Verify system\nI-9 and E-Verify: Know the difference\nE-Verify rules & procedures\nStates with current E-Verify laws\nE-Verify self-audits: Key steps\n\nWho Will Benefit? \n\nSenior Management\nHuman Resources professionals\nPayroll professionals\nCompliance professionals\nRecruiting professionals\nOperations Managers\nManagers & Supervisors

DESCRIPTION:Behavioral issues in the workplace are inevitable.  Whenever you have diverse groups of people working together\, issues will arise.  Each employee brings to the workplace a unique set of attitudes\, ideals and beliefs that may differ from that of their coworkers.  In addition to behavioral issues\, the issue of workplace incivility and the negative impact it has on your organization’s culture is monumental.  Unresolved behavioral issues often result in loss of revenue\, lessening of productivity\, the stifling of creativity\, and the creation of barriers to cooperation and collaboration. \nIt is helpful to view behavioral issues as opportunities.  Within every employee issue\, there is the potential for tremendous teaching and learning opportunities.  There is also the potential for growth and development.  When you address divergent positions properly\, you can stimulate innovation and learning in ways you cannot imagine. \nProblematic behavior usually develops over time.  As a Manager\, the more proactive you are in dealing with these problems\, the more likely it is that you will increase your chances for a positive outcome.  Issues that are avoided or ignored will only fester and grow into resentment. \nParticipation in this webinar will provide participants with the necessary tools and information to effectively and confidently address workplace issues in their organization. \nAreas Covered in This Session \n\nThe high cost of performance and productivity problems\nDefining behavioral issues\, conflict and incivility in the workplace\nWhat creates behavioral issues?\nPositive and negative outcomes of conflict\nConflict resolution styles\nAddressing behavioral issues\nCivility vs. Incivility\nDealing with bullying and the impact it has on your organization\nSteps to successful resolution of issues\nWorking knowledge of employment law\nConducting investigations\nBusiness goals of an investigation\nAppointing the right investigator\nThe interview process\nImportance of solid documentation\nRole of performance management dealing with behavioral issues\nEffective methods for supplying feedback to employees\nProgressive discipline\nWhen to involve legal counsel\nBest practices for a healthy workplace\n\nWho Will Benefit? \n\nSenior Leadership\nHuman Resources Professionals\nCompliance Professionals\nDirectors\nProject Leaders\nManagers & Supervisors
